Commenting on flood defence spending figures released today (Tue) James Carver, UKIP MEP for the West Midlands, said,
“I find it unbelievable that the West Midlands has been allotted a measly £12 per person for flood defences. That is frankly an insult.
“People in this region have suffered from the misery of flooding, and sadly I fear will do so again, and this paltry sum is not going to make much difference to that.
“Maybe I’m being cynical but it stands out like a sore thumb that the wealthy South East gets £167 per person. Even the the North West, which everyone knows suffered so badly and repeatedly in Cumbria, only gets £30. These figures just don’t add up to me.
“Time and time again money from this Tory government goes to the affluent South East in favour of the rest of the country, obviously including the West Midlands, and it is out or order,” said Mr Carver.
