Backing visa-free travel

In the best interests of the British people, I voted to allow the legislation providing for reciprocal visa-free access between the EU and the UK post Brexit to proceed, in the European Parliament's plenary session today.

I remain disgusted by the inclusion of the inaccurate and inflammatory footnote describing Gibraltar as a British "colony" , but I made my protest on that loud and clear yesterday. It is vital that Brits can continue to enjoy uncomplicated travel throughout EU countries.

The draft law was supported by 502 votes to 81 with 29 abstentions and now has to be formally adopted by the Council of Ministers and must be published in the Official Journal of the EU before April 12, to prepare for a possible no-deal Brexit on that date.
