Best serving constituents as an MEP

West Midlands UKIP MEP James Carver has confirmed he will not be contesting a seat in the forthcoming general election.

Mr Carver said: "After much consideration, I decided the best way I can represent my constituents during the Brexit process is by continuing to be an active Member of the European Parliament, where, of course, all MEPs will have the final say in a vote, following the conclusion of the Brexit negotiations.

"My recent resignation from the UKIP front bench, over a matter of conscience, affords me greater time and flexibility to better support UKIP candidates standing across the region that I represent, and indeed, further afield, and I look forward to playing an active part in the election campaign, on that basis."
