A visit to Coventry next week by a Chinese delegation has been highlighted by local UKIP MEP James Carver as “blowing a hole” through claims that remaining in the EU is vital to UK trade success.
“Those in the ‘Remain’ camp pretend that an important reason for staying in the European Union is our access to their single market.
“What they fail to admit is that the EU is a failing economic bloc and that when freed from their shackles Britain can negotiate its own trade deals with whoever we choose.
“We already have close links with China and next week’s visit organised by UK Trade and Investment in partnership with the Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub shows that there is a great future for us as a trading nation outside the EU.
“I personally find it embarrassing that we have turned out backs on our Commonwealth partners but after Brexit we could strengthen these historic ties to our mutual benefit,“ said Mr Carver, UKIP’s Commonwealth spokesman.
The 29 delates from companies and government organisations brought over by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce will be in Coventry for three days as part of a fact finding tour that also takes in Italy and Germany.
