Electoral reform is needed for a modern democracy

Here in the UK, we are not generally quick to embrace change and indeed relish our traditions, but sometimes change is for the better and some traditions are best consigned to the history books, says West Midlands UKIP MEP James Carver.

"If we want to be a truly modern, forward thinking representative democracy, then our electoral system will eventually have to change. And remember our voting system was created in a time when our rulers had no intention of representing all the people – the “lower classes”, women. It was established in a different time and times, there are a changing!

"This latest report highlights how there were 22 million wasted votes at the last General Election."
