The European Union will veto any deal with Britain in a bid to punish the UK for voting to leave the bloc, warns UKIP MEP James Carver.
Speaking on the BBC’s Daily Politics show, Mr Carver insisted the European Parliament would veto any deal agreed during Brexit negotiations.
The West Midlands MEP said: “I’m sure they will. Speaking from my experience, what I am seeing, the body language, the reactions we saw what was happening in the vote in the last parliamentary session.
“Basically, what they are going to do is cut off their nose to spite their face.
“They need a good deal, far more than we need a good deal.
“If we need to walk away, we have to walk away.”
All 27 EU member states, excluding the UK, must agree to the Brexit deal before the UK can fully cut ties with Brussels.
The MEP continued arguing that Ukip would hold the Government to account throughout the two-year Brexit process.
He added: “It actually underlines the validity of Ukip. What validity is Ukip in this general election?
“Actually, we have got to keep the pressure on the Conservative party, and speak up for traditional working class people who are not being represented by Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonald or Diane Abbott.”
