As both a Warwickshire MEP and a Shakespeare fan I am delighted that the Bard of Avon is feature on three special edition coins.

It is fitting that the Royal Mint should mark the 400th anniversary of his death this year this way and they will complement the various commemorative events being staged both locally and further afield.

It is easy to get down-hearted at the many problems facing modern society so it is good to have a chance to celebrate England’s finest playwright whose work still brings pleasure to many.

It is also re-assuring that it's a two pound coin, and not a Euro - judging by its performance since its launch, it's doubtful that the Euro will stand the test off time that the Bard has!
