Not betting on a change to the status quo

I sympathise with the plight of Labour MPs who no longer recognise their party, which fleeting emerged from the control of the loony left during the Blair years (not that that period was without issue!) only to be engulfed by the loony far left under Corbyn and his cronies.

But Labour has split before and the SDP kept the Conservatives in power for 18 years.

Is an era of realignment of political bedfellows upon us, as some would have us think today?

Of course not! So long as our first past the post electoral system continues, there is no room for more than a two-horse race. And whilst Brexit is tearing both our horses apart and the two jockeys are far from hot favourites, they’ll keep limping on.

Ideology and influential individuals will never best serve the needs of the British people, only the political elite, which is precisely why there will never be change from within.
