Nothing has changed - lots of inept words about shared ambitions, mutual respect and good faith, and arrangements so the backstop does not need to be triggered. But it’s still there – and if this deal is allowed to pass, it will be the elephant in the room, with he EU holding the best cards, leaving the UK in fear of being trumped.
There is also a clear sense that all roads in the declaration lead to a customs union; that the arbitration panel will rule the day; there is a massive hint that we’ll be tied to regulatory alignment; even an anticipation of the break-up of the UK!
Our MPs must now muster the courage to vote to leave on WTO terms. That is the only true Brexit, the only Brexit the British people voted for.
