James Carver, UKIP MEP for the West Midlands, has paid tribute to Nigel Farage, who has today announced that he is standing down as UKIP leader.
"There can be little doubt that Nigel's impact on recent British and European politics has been immense, and as such, in political terms, what he has achieved will be the envy of many of his political opponents.
"I first shared a platform with him, at public meeting way back in November 1996, and it was apparent from UKIP's early days, that he was going to make a huge impression. I have hugely enjoyed working alongside him for over 20 years, and look forward to his continued leadership of the EFDD group in the European Parliament.
"Furthermore, I look forward to the next chapter in UKIP's history, and am convinced that history will judge Nigel very kindly."
