UKIP councillor is made deputy mayor

West Midlands UKIP MEP James Carver hailed Councillor Martin Stooke as a “great ambassador for Kidderminster” as he congratulated him on becoming the town’s deputy mayor.

Cllr Stooke, UKIP member for Offmore and Comberton, became only the second deputy of the recently-formed town council on Wednesday (May 17).

Mr Carver, whose office is in Lisle Avenue, Kidderminster, said: “Martin is a thoroughly nice and decent man who has worked tirelessly for the community for many years.

“He will be a great ambassador for Kidderminster and provide great support to this year’s mayor.”

Cllr Stooke said it was “proud moment” when he was sworn in at this week’s mayor-making.

“My role will involve promoting the town and upholding and maintaining its traditions,” he added.
