Veldrome campaigners on track with petition

I’m delighted that the petition calling for a Velodrome to be built in the West Midlands as a legacy of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games has received the backing of more than 6,000 people.

Campaign leaders, including Halesowen Cycling Club chairman David Viner, are preparing to present it to Birmingham City Council leader, Councillor Ian Ward, on April 15.

I have supported the campaign for an indoor track as a training venue, to support grassroots cycling and provide a community venue for other sports and activities.

I sincerely hope the petition will not fall on deaf ears and that the feasibility study presenting a strong case for such a development will gain the backing of Birmingham City Council it deserves.
