James Carver MEP (Independent West Midlands)
The description of the European Union as a "sovereign entity" was described as ludicrous by West Midlands MEP James Carver during a debate on the annual report of the Implementation of the Foreign and Security Policy during a plenary session in Strasbourg this week.
He said: "How can 27 states, some of whom are neutral, come to a joint decision to send their young to war? This place must never have the moral authority to order troops into battle."
The independent Euro MP said peace-keeping should be left to the preserve of NATO and urged the EU to support the organisation and to also resist the "naked ambition" for a seat on the Security Council of the United Nations.
He reminded the Parliament that it is the nation state that protects its citizens and urged members to ignore the call to arms.
